James Belshaw & Layah Douglas awarded PFA Community Champions for 2021/22

Updated: May 5, 2022

Bristol Rovers and Bristol Rovers Community Trust are pleased to announce that James Belshaw and Layah Douglas have won the 2022 PFA Community Champion Award.

The PFA Community Champion Award aims to raise awareness of the support its members provide to community activities throughout the course of the season.

Throughout the season, James has volunteered to become our new health ambassador, taken the time to help with our mental-health provision and has been fully engaging with our young supporters. Layah Douglas has also volunteered her time to help with free after-school sessions for girls, assisted supporters during the ‘Fit Fans’ programme, helped at the Community Trust kids parties and was a part of the ‘Her Game Too’ kit launch last summer.

Bristol Rovers Community Trust CEO, Adam Tutton, said: "From day one, James has personified a true professional who understands the importance of our community. As our health ambassador, James has volunteered his time to offer support our mental-health events and has been helpful in many other ways."

Bristol Rovers Women's Secretary, Matthew Davies, said: "Layah has been an integral part of our community engagement this season and I'm delighted to be able to give her this award for her hard work. She has made herself available for a variety of different initiatives throughout the season and has been incredibly engaging and professional at all times. I'd also like to thank the PFA for recognising the work that our girls do, despite being local, amateur players within Bristol.

Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank James and Layah for their hard-work and commitment this season.
