On Saturday, 13th July, the Lockleaze Sports Centre will host the annual Lockleaze Community Cup, organised by Avon and Somerset Police in partnership with the Bristol Rovers Community Trust.
This event is designed to promote unity within the community through football and a variety of engaging activities for all ages. The day will begin with a local schools tournament in the morning, followed by a friendly match featuring staff from Avon and Somerset Police, the Bristol Rovers Community Trust, and participants from the Premier League Kicks social inclusion project.
The matches promote the events values of inclusion, mutual respect, and providing a platform for individuals from different backgrounds of the community to come together and enjoy the beautiful game.
A highlight of the Lockleaze Community Cup will be the innovative and interactive VR headset station, run by the local neighbourhood policing team. This cutting-edge technology aims to educate young people about the dangers of knife crime and the potential consequences of their decisions. By immersing participants in realistic scenarios, the VR experience offers a powerful and impactful learning tool, continuing the crucial work of the Bristol Rovers Community Trust in combating knife crime.
PC Rick Woodland said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Bristol Rovers Community Trust, it’s so important that we are reaching and engaging with our young communities, helping to build relationships and trust with the police.
“Events like this are a great platform for us to be able to provide some education alongside this around the dangers and consequences of knife crime, and we’re excited to be trialling the use of these innovative headsets, borrowed from our partners in Sussex Police.”
This initiative follows the recent installation of new bleed kits at The Memorial Stadium, provided by the Bristol Rovers Community Trust in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police and HeartSafe UK. These kits are vital in emergencies, potentially saving lives, and all community trust staff have been trained to use them.
Beyond the football and educational activities, the Lockleaze Community Cup offers various attractions for attendees of all ages. A police bike marking tent will be available to promote bike safety and theft prevention. Children can enjoy face painting, and everyone can participate in a raffle with exciting prizes.
Additionally, police vehicles will be on display, offering the public an opportunity to interact with officers and learn more about their work in the community. The Lockleaze Community Cup is the perfect example of community collaboration in building a safer, stronger, and more connected society.
Through sports, education, and interactive experiences, this event aims to inspire positive change and foster a sense of unity and responsibility among Bristol residents. Join us at Lockleaze Sports Centre on 13th July for a memorable day of football, fun, and community engagement.
