Layah Douglas becomes a Show Racism the Red Card Ambassador
Bristol Rovers Women’s FC are proud to announce that ‘Gas Girls’ defender Layah Douglas, will become an ambassador for Show Racism the Red Card.
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper and current Honorary President of (SRtRC) Shaka Hislop.
Bristol Rovers Community Trust and Bristol Rovers Women’s FC have an excellent working relationship and a history of delivering educational workshops for young people every year. Late last year, Douglas volunteered her time to sit on a panel and chat to children about her personal experiences and how everyone can help to tackle racism in society. Layah was soon invited to become an ambassador for the award-winning charity, which she was delighted to accept.
Douglas, said “It’s an incredibly proud moment for me to invited to become an ambassador for Show Racism the Red Card, and I’m really looking forward to supporting the work that they do to help educate and inspire so many young people across the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed my time chatting to pupils at a recent Community Trust and SRtRC workshop and I hope to offer more young people some insight into my own personal experiences, how I managed them and how we can all work together to tackle racism in society. I’m really excited to join the SRtRC family, and I’d like to thank Seth, Ged and Shaka for the warm welcome.”
CEO Ged Grebby, added “Layah is an incredibly talented individual who has dedicated her life to advocating for social justice and equality. She has shown a deep commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion and has been a vocal opponent of racism in all its forms. We are proud to have her on board as an ambassador and believe that her voice and influence will help us to make a real difference in the fight against racism. Layah's experience and passion for making the world a better place aligns perfectly with the values of our organisation, and we are excited to work alongside her in our efforts to combat racism and discrimination. We believe that Layah will bring a fresh perspective to our work, and we are confident that her involvement will help us to reach even more people and make an even greater impact. Once again, I want to extend a warm welcome to Layah and express our gratitude for her commitment to our cause. We look forward to working with her and making real progress in the fight against racism.”
The Honorary President of Show Racism the Red Card, Shaka Hislop said “We at SRtRC are honoured to welcome Layah Douglas as an ambassador. Layah has demonstrated her commitment to community in everything she does. As a player, leader and difference maker she is an example to us all. On a personal note, I am delighted Layah joins our fold. She represents the power this game holds, and the change we continue to work toward.”
