Rodger’s story: Together, we can make a difference!

As part of our ongoing work around prostate cancer at Bristol Rovers Community Trust, we’re proud to share the story of Gas supporter Rodger Allen - and we’re delighted that the work we’ve been doing has been noticed by our fans.
Rodger has supported Rovers since he first watched them play Plymouth Argyle at Eastville on 12 November 1960. More than six decades later, his commitment to the Gas remains as strong as ever - including travelling a 120-mile round trip for home games from his home in Wellington!
Now 75, Rodger is taking on an incredible challenge: a 100km trek across the Sahara to raise money for prostate cancer research. The trek will involve 6–8 hours of hiking each day, challenging temperatures ranging from 0–40°C, overnight camping and months of training.
Rodger was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in 2012. Since then, he has undergone surgery, radiotherapy and further treatment following the spread of the disease in 2021. He continues to have regular PSA checks and, despite facing further health challenges, remains determined to make a difference.
